Why these spaces work so well for us
If climbing gyms feel like one place where your ADHD brain doesn’t struggle as much, you’re not imagining it. A lot about the sport and the gyms really suit ADHD and other neurodivergent brains.
- Movement boosts baseline dopamine, which sharpens focus
- Problems are bite‑sized, fun, and immediately solvable
- You choose how social (or not) you want to be
- The wall demands that we be present — if we ruminate we fall off!
- Feedback is instant, progress is visible
- Climbing gyms typically have a very forgiving attitude to us forgetting things and leaving them behind
- And you’re surrounded by other ND people, even if it’s not explicitly stated. (I mean just take a look inside the lost property!)
So if you’re already climbing, you’ve already found something that supports your brain. And that’s not a small thing; it’s evidence that you can build systems that work for you.
Life outside the gym can be a different story
Most of the systems we have to deal with — work, study, admin, communication, expectations — weren’t designed with ND brains in mind. They often assume:
- consistent executive function
- predictable emotional regulation
- linear focus
- low sensitivity
- and the ability to “just push through”
If that’s not how your brain works it’s not a personal failing, it’s a design mismatch.
And that mismatch can show up as procrastination, overwhelm, shame spirals, lost momentum, or feeling like you’re always “behind” even when you’re trying your best.
This is where ADHD coaching comes in
It’s about helping you build a life that fits your wiring — the same way climbing fits your wiring.
I can help you with things like:
- procrastination, overwhelm, sensitivity, emotional regulation
- navigating systems that weren’t built for ND brains
- designing approaches that do work for you
- building rhythms that support clarity, momentum, and self‑trust
- identifying and leveraging your strengths (including the ones you don’t recognise yet)
A good ADHD coach doesn’t assume they know what you “should” be doing. We help you notice what already works, why it works, and how to build more of that into the rest of your life. And also help you notice and get free of expectations you might have accidentally internalised from a world that assumes we all have the same brains.
