ADHD coaching

ADHD coaching is a relational, reflective process to you understand your unique brain, reclaim your strengths, and move forward with clarity and self-trust.

I’ve seen a coach since getting diagnosed in 2022. It’s been amazingly helpful, but I had no idea what an ADHD coach was before then. Here’s how I see it now:

Coaching is:

Evidence based

Everyone needs evidence-based approaches for working with their brains. Neurotypical people get these from birth, but those of us diagnosed late in life may have spent decades trying to operate with the wrong advice.

It is very bloody frustrating!

ADHD coaching relies on the current scientific evidence for what works with ADHD. But the most important evidence we use is the evidence from your own life. All ADHD brains are unique, so we pay attention to what actually works for you.

Mike’s coaching sessions have been a delight and unlocked new ways of thinking and doing things. As a peer-coach – a late diagnosed AuDHD man – Mike’s insights and approach to coaching have landed perfectly with me.

Mike is an empathetic, intuitive, and skilled coach. He can both successfully and gently challenge me when needed – and hold space for exploration. His coaching sessions are adaptable to the issues of the moment, but have also been great at building a longer term, sustainable new habits and skills. If you are considering exploring your neuro-diversity, how you understand yourself and the world, I recommend working with Mike. Phil

Collaborative

ADHDers typically thrive in partnerships, because our brains are wired for connection, reflection, and creative problem-solving. A coach is a thinking partner who can reflect back both strengths and unhelpful patterns its hard to notice on our own.

I was pretty stuck when I started working with Mike, but working together regularly I’m developing a pool of techniques to navigate the relationship between me and my brain. Aydan

A deliberate pause

ADHD brains tend to be juggling many things at once, often with a sense of urgency. This constant churn can unintentionally leave the most reactive and short-sighted parts of our brains in charge, crowding out the space for the wiser and more reflective parts of ourselves to be heard.

Pausing is one of the most useful skills we can learn when we have ADHD. But it is typically not something we feel at all like doing in the moment. A coaching session is a deliberate pause, scheduled in our calendars, with a thinking partner who will know if we don’t show up, and whose only job is to support us in self-awareness.

Coaching sessions build our ability to pause, to let all parts of our brain have time to process, and to notice what we can’t when we’re in a constant rush.

I started my work with Mike feeling like I wasn’t fitting enough in, and wanting help to get more done. But he quickly helped me see how close I was to burnout and how seriously I needed to take it – that I actually needed to go much slower and reduce pressure, rather than adding things. Our work together helped me drop into my body and make sense of things in a neuro-affirming way. Now I’m living my values in a more grounded, connected, sustainable and effective way, because I’m more in touch with what matters. Stef

What we focus on

  • Slowing down to find what does and doesn’t work for your unique ADHD brain
  • Untangling overwhelm so you can take the next step with confidence
  • Celebrating wins — even the small ones

What sessions look like

  • 1:1 conversations over Google Meet
  • Working together to clarify the outcomes you want and what might be in the way
  • Ending with clear next steps

I met Mike for a coaching session when I was job hunting and frustrated with my progress. Through his kind and curious questions we quickly came to realise that the task I’d unsuccessfully been pushing myself to do was actually out of step with where I really wanted to go next in my career, and together we identified and shaped a positive path out of a murky, negative situation. After a single hour I emerged with both a concrete plan and a renewed sense of confidence and motivation. I highly recommend his services. Suzie
